A 1987 Canberra Times newspaper article includes the following detailed biographical information:
'Rodger is a multi-talented figure who has worked as an actor, theatre and film director, playwright, teacher, academic and administrator.
'He was educated at the University of Adelaide and Balliol College, Oxford. He trained in England on the ITV trainee directors' scheme, and at the Australian Film and Television School in Sydney.
'From 1968 to 1974 he directed at many of the major English repertory theatres, including Sheffield, Liverpool, Birmingham, Nottingham, Leicester, Northampton, Watford and Exeter.
'In 1974 he returned to Australia to direct the premiere of Equus for the Melbourne Theatre Company, and in the past 12 years has directed for most of the major companies in Australia, including the Old Tote, the Royal Queensland Theatre Company, Sydney Theatre Company and NIDA.
'Since completing his training as a film director, Rodger has directed two short films — Buckley's Chance and Stuffed (both of which he wrote himself) — and a 30 minute television pilot, The Room Next Door. He's also directed a telemovie, Jackson's Crew.'
