AbstractHistoryArchive Description

The novel portrays 17000-odd Chinese gold-diggers, including only one woman, who landed in Robe, South Australia, in the mid-1850s, in order to avoid the head tax charged them by the Victorian government, and travelled overland for more than 500 kilometres to the Victorian goldfields.
