Notes

  • In the 'Notice to Correspondents' in this issue the editor states: '"Truth" may "give his servants into custody for being drunk and disorderly ;" we cannot insert his letter, because he alludes to a Journal which we are not in the habit of noticing, except on very particular occasions.' This is probably an allusion to the Gazette's quarrel with the Commercial Journal and Advertiser and the Advertiser's proprietor, William Jones, and reporter, William Corp. See a column The Commercial Journal, published in the Sydney Gazette and New South Wales Advertiser(29 May 1838): 2.
