Journalist and television presenter.
Born and raised in Brisbane, Spicer graduated from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in 1987, with a Bachelor of Business (Communications). She began her journalism career in Brisbane, before relocating to Melbourne, where she moved from radio to television. After fourteen years with Network Ten, Spicer parted ways with the company acrimoniously, alleging discrimination since the birth of her first child, an allegation that garnered media attention. She then moved to Sky News, which she left in 2015. Since 2015, she has primarily worked as a freelance journalist.
Although Spicer has contributed short prose pieces to anthologies since 2013, her first long-form work was The Good Girl Stripped Bare (2017): described as a 'femoir', part memoir and part manifesto, it deconstructs systemic barriers against women in the workplace, with the Network Ten dismissal as a central point of analysis.
