BiographyHistory

The German-born American Daniel Bandmann toured Australia on at least two occasions. In his 1885 memoir An Actor's Tour ; or, Seventy Thousand Miles with Shakespeare, Bandmann writes of his arrival in Sydney in late 1879: 'I saw immense change. I had not been there for upward of ten years...' (p.8)

Bandmann's 'Seventy Thousand Miles' tour last several years and, at various times, included performances in a number of towns in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Tasmania and South Australia as well as in Darwin and on Thursday Island.
