Kim Burke is of Aboriginal descent from both her parents' families and identifies primarily with the Wiradjuri from the burrendong valley, New South Wales. Kim achieved her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Newcastle. After working at the University of Sydney she was the Chair of Lake Macquarie Aboriginal Corporation.
