Director.
Born in Sydney, Clifford worked at Artransa Studios for some years, before moving to London in 1964 and beginning work for the BBC. From here, he moved to Canada, where he worked for the CBD in Vancouver. In all these roles, he was working as a film editor, not yet as a director.
In Canada, he met Robert Altman, with whom he worked on That Cold Day in the Park. Altman invited Clifford to Los Angeles, where he collaborated with Altman on numerous films, including M.A.S.H.
After a wide number of film-editing jobs, Clifford moved into directing, first for television and then for film, beginning with Frances (a biopic of actress Frances Farmer) in 1982. The majority of his directorial credits have been in television, including major mini-series The Last Don and its sequel.
