This review incorporates a report on the presentation of a testimonial to William Vial, of the volunteer fire brigade, who seized 'the ruffian O'Farrell' when the latter attempted the assassination of H. R. H. Prince Alfred, the Duke of Edinburgh on 12 March 1868. The presentation took place during the evening's performance at the Prince of Wales Opera House on 24 March 1868.
