AbstractHistoryArchive Description

'Publishers, booksellers and newsvendors' are warned to heed the contents of the Treason Felony Act. One interpretation of the act suggests that republication in New South Wales of overseas publications that contain 'matter which may be construed as seditious' will be dealt with 'according to the act'. As a result, 'no one will be able to sell or circulate either English or Irish newspapers' or to comment 'in a colonial publication on matters pertaining to Fenianism, without becoming liable to prosecution'.
