A report on the possible opening of a 'rival Theatre [for the Royal Victoria Theatre] in the place formerly used ... [by the Theatre Royal, Sydney] in the rear of the Royal Hotel. The column names the actors 'currently disengaged' and notes that 'Mr Smart [has advertised] for sale by auction a complete theatrical wardrobe, imported from London by the late firm of Simmons and Marks'.
An advertisement for the theatrical wardrobe appears in the Sydney Herald (14 May 1838): 7 and the Sydney Gazette (19 May 1838): 3. See also a later report published in the Sydney Gazette (24 May 1838): 2.
