At the age around the age of nine, Tasmanian boy George Vandiemen was found wandering the streets by a recently arrived settler, William Kermode. Kermode decided to take Vandiemen to Lancashire, England to be educated. He did well in his studies but on his return to Tasmania in 1828 he fell ill and died soon afterwards.
