Notes

  • Another of McDougall's poems which condemns war, without specifically mentioning World War I. When this poem was initially published in the Labor Call, detailed news of the Gallipoli landing was just starting to filter back to Australia. Whether the censor would have passed this poem in the subsequent months and years of the war remains a matter of conjecture.
