AbstractHistoryArchive Description

In 1947, Shona and Pat learn they have a new baby brother, but soon notice their parents' gloominess. To them, Peter has a funny face, but they otherwise saw nothing wrong with him. However, when Peter is nearly one, their parents take him to a home for disabled children, as was the custom at the time. Peter grows up separate from them.
