Popular Culture of Indigenous Australia (ATSI2004)
2012

Description

Representations and misrepresentations of Aboriginality as part of the national identity are most often portrayed through the mass media, film and literature. This subject will focus on the participation of Indigenous people in these fields and how that involvement forges national identities. Iconography, which surrounds Aboriginal people will be addressed, as well as its importance to Australias international identity.

Electronic and print media, films and literature form the foundations for this subject. There will also be information about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts bodies and community organisations to ensure an understanding of the complexities of Indigenous identity.
