Founded by Henry 'Harry' Steeger in 1930, Popular Publications quickly grew into one of the largest publishers of pulp magazines in the USA, and at one stage was responsible for 42 different titles per month, with the genres incouding detective, adventure, romance, and Western fiction. In 1942 the firm acquired the properties of the Frank A Munsey Company, inclouding such titles as Railroad Man's Magazine, Famous Fantastic Mysteries, and The Argosy.
and seven years later it bough the rights to several of Street and Smith's publications. Popular Publications was sold to to Blazing Publications in 1972. In 1988 it was renamed Argosy Communications.
Among the Popular Publications imprints were Fictioneers, Inc. (1939-58), All-Fiction Field, Inc. (1942-58), New Publications, Inc. (1936-60), Recreational Reading (1936-60), and Post Periodicals, Inc. (1936-60).
