BiographyHistory

The Descendance Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Dance Theatre was born in 2000 from the mighty Ngaru Dance Company, Sydney’s first professional independent traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Dance troupe.

The Ngaru Dance Company was first established in 1993 by Sean Choolburra, an descendant from the Girrma, Kalkadoon and Kulu-Yalanji people. In 1998, the company came under the guidance of the late great Aboriginal song woman Imelda Willis and world music pioneer and producer Jose Calarco.
