AbstractHistoryArchive Description

'In 1770 [sic], 'School for Scandal' was the hottest ticket on the London stage. Since then it has been called the best comedy ever written. 1948 Vivien Leigh and her husband, Sir Laurence Olivier, toured Australia with the Old Vic theatre from London. When they arrived in Brisbane they were welcomed at the airport with a pineapple. They later performed 'School for Scandal' at the glamorous His Majesty’s Theatre in Queen Street.

'heartBeast transports Richard Brinsley Sheridan's restoration comic masterpiece to the world of 1948 Brisbane, recapturing the essence of Vivien Leigh's actual performance. The only problem was that poor, beautiful Vivien, like the sailor's of old, was rumoured to have a different dalliance in every port. And her husband, knew all about it. This production relates the scandal of what was actually happening off stage with the ‘Scandal’ that was being enacted on it.' (Source : heartBeast website)
