'Ken Bolton’s thinking is never too relaxed, but moves restlessly and anxiously, across people, cultural references and disparate locations even as he writes, or so it appears. And the resultant poems also seem to be unfiltered by any desire on the poet’s part to be ‘poetic’. But perhaps this is illusory. The poems are, after all, carefully considered and crafted, occupying the page determinedly even though the poet writes as if the events and thoughts he references are taking place in an ongoing, urgent present, via a stream of consciousness, and that the last thing on his mind is making ‘poetry’. Indeed, Bolton records something that looks like immediate, unfiltered thought and his compelling purpose is to register rather than editorialise.' (Introduction)

'Luke Fischer has been writing poetry since a relatively early age and has combined this deep engagement with ongoing academic studies in philosophy, along with an interest in music. His first collection of poetry Paths of Flight (Black Pepper, 2013) has been widely regarded as an outstanding debut and was commended in the FAW Anne Elder Award. In 2013, with his wife Dalia Nassar, Luke initiated the highly esteemed Poetry and Music Salon in North Bondi. The private salons have also led to public iterations, including: ‘Poetry and Music Salon: Do Poets Tell the Truth?’ at the 2014 Sydney Writers’ Festival and ‘Poetry and Music Salon: Poetry vs Prose’ at the 2015 Sydney Writers’ Festival.

'Collaboration has a long history in the arts, especially in music. In poetry, Wordsworth and Coleridge produced the 'Lyrical Ballads' and Ezra Pound's editorial influence is widely regarded as an indelible (though uncredited) influence on TS Eliot's 'The Wasteland'. While most collaborations in verse involve a dialogue between two poets, this three-way 'Conversation' is intended to introduce and share a number of concerns and ideas that pertain to both composition and editorial practice. Consequently, our combined statements and reflections are intended as a foundation from which to step off into the actual writing process, and to offer potential readers a number of valuable insights into possible methodologies for a collaboration, in three voices.'
