BiographyHistory

John Poole was an English dramatist and author, best known as a playwright of comic drama. His plays Hamlet Travestie and Paul Pry are considered his most notable works. Poole's book The Oddities of London Life was published under the pseudonym of Paul Pry.

Extracts from Poole's novels and sketches were published in nineteenth century Australian newspapers including the Commercial Journal and Advertiser and his plays were sometimes produced in the Australian colonies.
