BiographyHistory

A. Levy was part of the theatrical life of Sydney, New South Wales in the 1830s. By his own account, Levy found a letter, possibly the draft of a letter, by M. Munyard an actor. The letter contained adverse remarks on audiences in colonial Sydney in 1838. Levy distributed the contents of the letter which caused a disturbance at a Theatre Royal performance and the heckling of Munyard. William Corp in a report on the Munyard incident in the Commercial Journal 14 March 1838, describes A. Levy as 'of the Red Cross, George-street, formerly prompter to the theatre' and 'a special constable.'
