BiographyHistory

In 1877, with J. M. Harcourt, William John Davey founded the Kerang Times, the first newspaper in the Kerang district. In 1885, Davey ‘severed his connections with the Kerang Times and launched the Kerang Observer, the active management of which he continued up to the last’ (Mildura Cultivator 22 January 1919: 7).

Prior to settling in Victoria, Davey had been a military volunteer in England (1860-1865) and also in South Australia (1866-1868).

Sources: 'Lieutenant Davey.' Bendigonian 15 September 1914: 12 and 'Local News.' The Mildura Cultivator 22 January 1919: 7.

Sighted: 16 September 2013
