Henry Fane Becher was the son of the Reverend R. F. Becher, the first minister of the Baptist Church in Grafton. Becher served his newspaper apprenticeship at the Clarence and Richmond Examiner as a compositor, and later started Grafton's Grip newspaper.
Becher died in 1907 while working for shearing contractors in Queensland's Windorah district. A telegram received by the Commissioner of Police stated that a body had been found near 'Springfield' station. An earlier telegram had informed the Commissioner that 'a deserted buggy with loose horses' had been discovered, and, near them, 'a pair of muddy boots and the tracks of bare feet'. The Brisbane Courier's Barcaldine correspondent said that Becher's body was located on the banks of Cooper's Creek.
