BiographyHistory

The Australian Patriotic Association was formed by colonists, including William Charles Wentworth, John Jamison, William Bland, Samuel Lyons, George Nichols and William Hutchinson, to seek representative government in the colony of New South Wales and to champion the rights of emancipists against conservative free settlers such as James Macarthur. The association was disbanded after the passage, in England, of the New South Wales Constitution Act, 1842.
