BiographyHistory

George Edward Inkpen was a ‘member of one of the oldest Western Australian families’. In 1874, he moved with his family to York where his father, George Inkpen, founded the Eastern Districts Chronicle and conducted a general printing business. As soon as Inkpen completed his schooling, he was apprenticed to his father and, following his father’s death, was proprietor and editor of the Eastern Districts Chronicle and its successor, the York Chronicle, for forty years.

Inkpen was a president of the Provincial Press Association, a justice of the peace and a mayor of York.
