BiographyHistory

Henry Barnes, began his journalistic career in 1874 by establishing the Beaufort Advocate. In 1876 he started the East Charlton Tribune which he sold in 1879 to his partner, Edward James Stephens. Barnes then moved to Dimboola, where he established the Dimboola Banner. He 'held several public positions, including Government Auditor for five years'. He later 'conducted newspapers at Nhill, Lillimur, Warragul, Devonport (Tasmania), Foster, Toora. He started the Werribee Banner in 1902, and later on the Winchelsea Ensign and Cressy Pioneer.’
