Harold Allie, an Aboriginal and South Sea Islander (Vanuatu) grew up in Charters Towers, Queensland. After the age of 17, Harold enlisted in the Air Force and did his recruitment training in Edinburgh, Adelaide, South Australia. After doing his trade training in Wagga Wagga, Harold was then posted to East Sale in Gippsland, Victoria. In 1980, Harold was posted to Sydney where he was Flight Sergeant, later he was posted to Malaysia in 1985 and 1986. Harold retired after 23 years of service in the Air Force, which at that time he held one of the highest non-commissioned ranks, Warrant Officer. During his time with the air-force he was awarded several medals, including the British Empire Medal for Meritorious Service.
