Statement in the first issue of the Donald Times: ‘We must crave indulgence for any shortcomings that may naturally be expected in the first issue of a newspaper printed in a new district, and with such terrible roads leading thereto. We have had goods 16 days from Melbourne, and not yet delivered. The most useful man in the office had to ride 50 miles to open a case to procure our heading, and the loss of time, so near publication day, was serious.’
