BiographyHistory

Patricia Boero was born in Peru to Cuban and Uruguayan parents. She lived in Santo Domingo and Montevideo before migrating to Australia. Boero studied film, arts and law at UNSW. She wrote her Honours thesis on the work of Spanish writer Ramón Valle-Inclán. In 1980 Boero was a founding member of the Latin American Cultural Centre 'La Peña'.

Boero's career has spanned media and socially responsible business. She been a correspondent for the BBC’s World Service, a field producer for CNN in Cuba, and a director of documentary films in Central and South America. In the United States she has been a founding board member of Latino Public Broadcasting, later becoming its Executive Director. In the corporate sector she has worked with companies such as Levi Strauss and Starbucks on issues relating to community investment and corporate social responsibility.

In Australia, Boero was a journalist with the Spanish language newspaper El Expreso and published an essay on the women’s movement in the anthology Different Lives, (Penguin, Australia, 1987).
