Including Hay Simpson [Leslie Hay-Simpson] (Ned Kelly), John Appleton (Dan Kelly), Norman Wait (Joe Byrne), Robert Inglis (Steve Hart), and Regena Somerville (Kate Kelly).

Release Dates:

Released in New Zealand in August 1934.

Released in Australia (barring New South Wales) in October 1934.

Banned from release in New South Wales under government restrictions on films that showed bushrangers in a positive light (a ban against which the film-makers unsuccessfully appealed).

The ban was lifted in 1942, and the film was re-released in 1948.


Location:

  • Filmed on location in the Megalong Valley and in Cinesound studios in Rushcutter's Bay (using a hired Cinesound crew).

Notes:

Considered the first Kelly Gang film to be made with sound.
