AbstractHistoryArchive Description

The Filbert Family series of 25 minute radio playlets as conceived and written by Chandra Parkes in 1934. The stories essentially revolved around the adventures of the Filbert children. The first production in the series is believed to have been 'Building a Rabbit Hutch,' which went to air on Monday evening of 5 March. The series, which later transferred to Sunday nights, was sponsored by a yet to be identified company.

Notes

  • In early September 1934 Parkes sought an injunction in the Court of Equity to stop 2UE from producing a new series called 'The Adventures of Bobby Filbert,' which she had no part in and which she also claimed characters that she invented outside her contractual obligations. Although still employed by the station at the time 2UE's actions may have been in part an attempt to end their association after she had been publicly identified as the other woman in a divorce case initiated by the wife of recently sacked employee Lionel Lunn. Although Parkes was not awarded the injunction she later proceeded with a law suit against 2UE Sydney Ltd that ended with her being granted an undisclosed settlement. Lunn also successfully sued the station and the pair subsequently worked for a number of years as sketch artists at 2FC and later 2GB.
