During World War I, Archie Barwick served with the 1st Battalion AIF at Gallipoli and then in France and Belgium, where he was twice wounded. In 1918 he was awarded the Belgian Croix de Guerre for gallantry. Barwick's World War I diaries are held at the State Library of New South Wales.
