  • This review also reviews four works that is/are outside the scope of AustLit.
  • Describes Convict Once as "faulty both in conception and in working out; yet it is a good poem in its way." The review concentrates on describing the action of the poem, and concludes that "It is rather a shallow and sickly story, and much of the verse in which it is told is sickly and shallow. Yet we believe that Mr Stephens will write good poetry by-and-by."
