BiographyHistory

'Annie Richards (1845-1930) was one of South Australia's early pioneering women. Married to a policeman, she lived for over fifteen years in one of the remotest parts of the colony. It was a chance meeting that was to change the direction of her life and saw her become an indefatigable plant hunter. Despite her efforts being largely ignored in an area where gentlewomen dominated, she always considered herself 'a lady' and believed that such an interest would bring her acceptance in polite society.' (Everlastings: Becoming Me: Annie Richards the flower hunter)
