Recorded Books was founded in Maryland, USA in 1978. It was successively acquired by several audiobook companies including Haights Cross Communications (1999), Wasserstein (2014) and Shamrock Advisors (2015). Recorded Books itself also acquired other businesses. In 2017, Recorded Books became an imprint of RBMedia.
