'This much I now know, despite our family's apparent reluctance to dwell on the loss. Early on the morning of 7 August 1915, at the Nek-a strip of ground running atop the Gallipoli hills-Private William Dow was among the first two waves of 8th Light Horse Regiment members to leap over the hessian bags lining the Anzac trenches into immediate slaughter by machine gun fire.'  (Publication abstract)
