  • Epigraph: Now that rain has partially brightened the State, we can once more see humour in verses about water-conservation.

    New York City uses 963,000,000 gallons of water every day. During a recent drought a radio broadcast urged the people to help save supplies by shutting taps off firmly, and fixing leaks. The broadcast concluded with this verse, which was quoted from a British water conservation poster:
