'His Own Special Friend by Dr Dino Hodge was a one-hour performance about the history of homosexual men in the NT, an insight into the rubbing edge between frontier men of diverse sexuality and the development of gay sensibility in one of Australia’s most multicultural cities.'

  • Premiered at Darwin Fringe Festival in June 1993.


    An abridged version was presented at the inaugural 'QueerLit' conference in Sydney [n.d.].


    Performed at the inaugural Festival of One Act Plays in Katherine [n.d.].


    Adapted fro broadacast in ABC Radio National's Talking History in January 1994.


    Re-worked for performance by Little Village Productions in New York City in June 1994, as part of the 25th annviersary celebrations of the Stonewall Riot.


    Presented by Brown's Mart, Darwin, on 1 June 2024, as part of a double bill with Keep Him My Heart : A Larrakia-Filipino Love Story. Keep Him My Heart was postponed after a death in the playwright's family: His Own Special Friend was still produced.
