AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Influenced by the painting series 'October 18, 1977' by German painter Gerhard Richter, this opera simultaneously treats Richter's painting process and Ulrike Meinhof's earlier period of imprisonment before her apparent suicide.

Notes

  • The work was described as an opera, but early reviews noted that it was neither opera nor theatre. Inspired by German painter Gerhard Richter's paintings of the deaths of members of the Red Army Faction (sometimes retroactively called the Baader-Menhof Group), it was performed in art galleries rather than theatres.
