BiographyHistory

Adelaide-based alternative band, often identified as new wave / funk, but also exploring other genres. The band was formed partially out of the disbandment of previous Adelaide outfit Systems Go! According to member Tom Stehlik's memoir, the early days of Speedboat were spent rehearsing in the basement of a house in the St Peters suburb of Adelaide, in a house owned by chef Phillip Searle.

An early iconic gig for the band was at the Governor Hindmarsh Hotel, where the brass section got down onto the dance floor and played a round of tennis while the remaining bandmembers continued the song onstage.
