BiographyHistory

Pop-rock band formed in Plympton, Adelaide, South Australia, as Down the Line. Initially comprised of Plympton High School mates John D'Arcy, Gordon Rawson and Gerard Bertlekamp, before adding later members Ted Higgins and Daryl Cotton. They changed their name to Zoot in 1967 and relocated to Melbourne by 1968. Their heavy rock cover of The Beatles' ballad 'Eleanor Rigby', released in 1970, reached no. 5 on the Go-Set national singles chart.

Their bass guitarist, Beeb Birtles, was later a founding member of the Little River Band, and their guitarist / singer-singwriter, Rick Springfield, is best known for his 1981 single 'Jessie's Girl'.

They disbanded in May 1971.
