BiographyHistory

Musician who came to fame in the 1970s. He was the subject of a collective biography in 1998.

John J. Francis is said variously to have been born in the United States or in Murwillumbah. He later settled in Newcastle. He recorded four albums between 1972 and 1974, before retiring from the music business. His song 'Simple Ben' was included in the classic surfing movie Morning of the Earth. His albums include Rock'n'Roll Refugee, and he moved from a more acoustic, r'n'b sound to a tougher electric rock sound by the mid 1970s.

His death was erroneously reported in 2019.
