  • Author's note: In his The Life and Death of Mr. Badman, in 1680, John Bunyan described consumption as 'the captain of all these men of death'. In 1901, in the fourth edition of his Principles and Practice of Medicine, William Osler transferred the title to penumonia, describing it as 'the captain of the men of death'.
