BiographyHistory

'Carla Pascoe Leahy is a Lecturer in Family History at the University of Tasmania, Honorary Fellow at the University of Melbourne, Joint Editor of Oral History Australia Journal and an Honorary Associate at Museum Victoria. Her research focuses on motherhood and family; children and youth; place, environment and sustainability; and oral history and qualitative research. Her newest research examines how understandings and experiences of family are shifting in an era of rapid environmental change.

'Carla has published in leading Australian and international journals and is the author of Spaces Imagined, Places Remembered: Childhood in 1950s Australia (2011). She has co-edited volumes that have made ground-breaking interventions, including Children, Childhood and Cultural Heritage (2013), Children’s Voices from the Past: New Historical and Interdisciplinary Perspectives (2019) and Australian Mothering: Historical and Sociological Perspectives (2019). She works closely with cultural institutions, particularly Museums Victoria, where she is a member of the Australian Children’s Folklore Collection Reference Committee. Carla’s research reaches a wide audience through her articles for The Conversation, radio interviews and contributions to leading news outlets including The New York Times and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.'
