'Paradise is getting darker for Makani Lau. Her tourist boyfriend, Flynn Cole, is arrested and released when no evidence is found connecting him to the disappearance of his sister and her family. She and Flynn then go off in search of his missing relatives, only to find that the monsters they encountered days earlier seem to be following them around the island of Oahu. Or are they? Snatching moments of peace whenever they can, Makani and Flynn attempt to escape the deepening shadows by travelling to eh Big Island, where they learn that her connection to the monsters may be more than mere coincidence.
