Joseph Jewell Westwood's journal An Account of Eight Years' Itineracy begins with an introduction that details his birth and the situation of his parents, establishing from the outset the religious tone of the text. His diary follows. Beginning in Geelong, it provides accounts of Westwood's daily activities, including scripture readings, travel through the countryside, members of the community, the weather, and his religious activities, which included preaching and collecting donations. The work was written in the first person but was composed in a formal tone.
