19th-Century Australian Travel Writing
P.L. Van der Byl's travel narrative A Colonist's Tour was presented as "the plain, unvarnished tale of one who claims to be nothing more presumptious than a farmer". The South African author offered an account of what he had seen in Australia during his global travels. The narrative style is brief; the events are outlined without detailed description. Farming was emphasised, including ostrich and sheep farming, and wine making.
