19th-Century Australian Travel Writing
Wilberton Tilley's (1858-1935) The Wild West of Tasmania is a comprehensive account of the mining districts in the North West of Tasmania, and combines his internal travel narrative with detailed information about the climate, locations, and mining companies, seemingly intended for those planning to seek work in the mines described. The work was illustrated by a series of photographs by J. Bishop-Osborne, recording the streets, hotels, and inhabitants of the mining towns.
