19th-Century Australian Travel Writing
Colonel William Light (1786-1839) was a British-Malaysian soldier, surveyor, artist and linguist. A Brief Journal was published retrospectively and notes his time in office as Surveyor-General of South Australia. It specifically serves as a defense against criticisms made against him in relation to his choice of a site for the city of Adelaide. The text is presented in abbreviated journal form and chronicles details of his findings in his capacity as a surveyor of the region in 1836.
