'Susan Ryan, who died in September 2020, represented the ALP as Senator for the Australian Capital Territory from 1975 to 1988. In 1983 she became the first woman in a federal Labor cabinet as Minister for Education and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Status of Women. She was responsible for the Sex Discrimination Act (SDA) in 1984 and the Affirmative Action (Equal Employment Opportunity for Women) (AA) Act in 1986.' (Publication abstract)
