19th-Century Australian Travel Writing
Thomas Cook Just's (1839-1900) Official Hand-Book of Tasmania was compiled under the instructions of the Government Board of Immigration. It was circulated for the information and use of intending emigrants from Great Britain and the Continent of Europe. Just's guide outlined the geography, history, products, institutions and politics of Tasmania. A second edition of the Hand-Book was reprinted in 1883, and a third edition in 1887. These hand-books were similar to Just's earlier publication Tasmaniana! A Description of the Island of Tasmania and its Resources (1876, 1879).
